Sweet nothings

One day I was half asleep after a really long and shitty day. Like one of those days you just want to crawl into a hole and die after. My daughter (maybe 4 years old then) comes over and asks me if I'm awake. The awake side of my brain is trying to rouse the rest of me into answering her, but apparently I took too long, 'cause she decided I was sleeping.
She leans over and gives me the lightest kiss ever on my forehead, whispers "I love you daddy" and runs off.
Best. Day. Ever.
More stories that will make you say "aww" after the jump!

So it's Independence Day and I'm traveling. I'm in a plane next to a little girl and her mother. It's gotten dark during the flight, and as we start to land the little girl starts freaking out (she freaked out a little bit during takeoff too). I have the window seat, and as I look outside I can see fireworks going off. I think hey maybe this will distract her and I lean back and I point to the fireworks, only my timing is perfect and mre fireworks go off as soon as I point. The girl thinks I'm controlling the fireworks. Her eyes get real big. "ARE YOU MAGIC?" she asks me, all super excited now. "YOU MUST BE MAGIC."
You bet your ass I'm magic.

I was at the movie theater getting candy while my friend waited in the theater. I smiled to the cashier in greeting and he asked, "sorry, can you smile again?" I did, awkwardly, and he told me I had a beautiful smile. It made my night.

After the very last final of my college career, we received our graded term papers from the professor as we turned in our test (the course was biology of learning and memory). Paper in hand, she looks me in the eye and asks, "Did you write all of this yourself?"
The assignment was to write a proposal for a scientific experiment exploring some aspect of memory; I had chosen memory erasure, akin to Eternal Sunshine. I tell her yes, that I had written everything myself, and she pauses for a second ... then says, "This is the best proposal I've read in 15 years. Graduate students can't write like this. You need to be a scientist, _____."
I can't think of a better ending to my college experience. That was the first time a college professor had complimented me on my work, and I'll never forget her sincerity.

Maybe not the sweetest thing, but absolutely the most unexpected and well timed.
I travel alone for business a lot. Means a lot of walking around big cities by myself. I was having a particularly bad day wandering around rainy downtown Chicago, lost and upset. A stranger smoking a cigarette came out of a dark alley, noticed me immediately, and started moving towards me while yelling, "Hey lady! Hey! Could you do me a favor, lady?" in a thick Russian accent. Usually this is followed by some kind of cat calling or propositioning, so I put my head down and walked faster. Instead I was totally shocked when he started laughing and said, "You are too pretty to be so sad! Do me a favor and smile more, please? Nothing in the world is so bad, if someone lovely like you would just smile at it."
I blushed, and spent the rest of the day with a huge grin on my face.

We were laying in the grass together on a chilly spring night. I look over at him and try to make conversation."If you had three wishes, what would they be?" ..."Well," he said, "I'd only need one. To be with you. Forever." We were both very introverted, so him saying that caught me totally off guard. :)
I was at a bus stop in San Fransisco and a woman with two adorable little boys came to the stop. They were probably about six and eight. The little six year old sat next to me, looked up at me, hugged my arm, and said, "I love you" then proceeded to kiss my arm multiple time frequently saying, "I love you". His mom smiled at me and laughing she said, "Well I guess he's discovered women".
